LG Elec up 5 pct on strong Whirlpool results

SEOUL, July 24 (Reuters) - Shares in LG Electronics (066570.KS) jumped on Thursday after Whirlpool Corp (WHR.N), its U.S. peer and the world's biggest appliance maker, reported higher-than-expected earnings and its shares rallied overnight.

"Whirlpool's results came as quite a surprise and helped brighten the outlook for LG Elec's appliance units as well," said Steve Lee, an analyst at Goodmorning Shinhan Securities.

LG Electronics was up 5.5 percent at 115,000 won as of 0148 GMT.
