Session: "Data Protection: Transforming Data Protection for the
Information-Centric Enterprise"
This tutorial focuses on how new data protection
technologies can be deployed to meet the business
objectives and service level requirements of
organizations that rely on electronically stored
information. Whether your business is subject to FRCP,
HIPAA, SOX, or just more stringent corporate
governance, your IT department is tasked with
understanding and protecting multiple classes of data
throughout its lifecycle and ensuring that costs are
contained.
Speaker: Jason Iehl, NetApp Data Protection Solutions architect
and SNIA DMF Data Protection Initiative cochair
Michael Fishman, EMC and SNIA DMF Education chair
Date: Monday, August 4, 2008
Time: 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. PDT
Session: "Benefits of Networked Storage: iSCSI and Fibre Channel
SANs"
This presentation outlines the benefits of networked
storage, contrasting the different options. It
describes both Fibre Channel and iSCSI-based SAN
configurations, capabilities, options, and best
practices, including contemporary storage array
features. The presentation also compares and contrasts
where Fibre Channel and iSCSI fit in typical IT
environments today. Finally, this presentation
discusses emerging and future capabilities for both
Fibre Channel and iSCSI, including the Fibre Channel
road map, 10Gb Ethernet, and Fibre Channel over
Ethernet (FCoE).
Speaker: David Dale, director of Standards, NetApp; vice chair,
SNIA
Date: Tuesday, August 5, 2008
Time: 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. PDT
Session: "Introduction to Data Protection: Back Up to Tape, Disk,
and Beyond"
Extending the enterprise backup paradigm with disk-based
technologies allows users to significantly shrink or
eliminate the backup time window. This tutorial focuses
on various methodologies that can deliver an efficient
and cost-effective disk-to-disk-to-tape (D2D2T)
solution. This includes approaches to storage pooling
inside modern backup applications, using disk and file
systems within these pools, as well as how and when to
utilize virtual tape libraries (VTLs) within these
infrastructures.
Speaker: Jason Iehl, NetApp Data Protection Solutions architect
and SNIA DMF Data Protection Initiative cochair
Date: Wednesday, August 6, 2008
Time: 10:15-11:15 a.m. PDT
Session: "New Regulation and Compliance Issues: How to Stay One
Step Ahead"
When it comes to storing and protecting digital data on
disks and tapes, what should the rules be and who
should set them? There are already hundreds of laws
that affect digital data storage and this space is
rapidly changing. Rather than wait for each state to
pass its own law, companies must implement a data
security infrastructure that combines advanced security
technologies, like encryption and key management, with
processes that manage risk on an ongoing basis. This
session will address how enterprise businesses can
partner with the federal government to develop laws and
regulations that strongly protect consumer data without
being overly burdensome to the companies that must keep
this data.
Speaker: Tim Russell, vice president and general manager,
Archive, Compliance, and Storage Security, NetApp
Date: Thursday, August 7, 2008
Time: 10:15-11:15 a.m. PDT
Session: "Best Practices for Long-Term Retention of Digital
Information"
Compliance requirements, legal discovery, business
pressures, and security risks have dramatically changed
the roles of those who own and manage information
within the data center. Previous approaches to
retaining, preserving, and disposing of information no
longer meet today's requirements for reduced operating
costs, scalability, and increased efficiency. This
presentation highlights the new work spearheaded by the
SNIA's Data Management Forum to produce reference
architecture for long-term digital information
retention based on information lifecycle management
best practices and methodologies.
Speaker: Gary Zasman, Worldwide Practice director, NetApp; SNIA's
LTACSI cochair
Date: Thursday, August 7, 2008
