VIENNA, Va. & NORMAN, Okla.--(Business Wire)--
LGS, a subsidiary of Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE:ALU)
dedicated to serving the U.S. government community, and its business
partner Trans-Tel Central today announced that the Indian Health
Service (IHS) has selected Alcatel-Lucent's communications solutions
for a number of communications upgrade projects.
The Oklahoma City Area Indian Health Service has implemented an
area-wide initiative to connect the federally controlled Indian
hospitals and clinics in the region with voice over IP (VoIP) to
streamline services, centralize management, and reduce overall
communications costs. The projects completed in 2008 by LGS and
Trans-Tel Central include 10 locations where upgrades to IHS
telecommunications infrastructures reduced long-distances charges
between sites and provides a common four-digit dialing directory.
LGS worked with Trans-Tel Central to install Alcatel-Lucent
enterprise voice, data and wireless local area network (WLAN)
equipment to create a secure, high-quality voice over IP (VoIP)
network for the participating facilities. Alcatel-Lucent is leading
the competitive transformation of its enterprise and government
customers toward a dynamic communications model where networks,
people, processes and knowledge are connected through the
communications infrastructure to strengthen relationships, simplify
interactions and improve business performance.
IHS, an agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human
Services, is responsible for providing federal health services to
American Indians and Alaska Natives with the goal to raise their
health status to the highest possible level. IHS currently provides
health services to approximately 1.5 million American Indians and
Alaska Natives who belong to more than 557 federally recognized tribes
in 35 states.
The Oklahoma City Area Indian Health Service serves 39 tribes and
tribal organizations in Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas. The Oklahoma
office oversees eight service units with federally operated hospitals,
clinics and smaller health stations located throughout the three
states.
