Email Service Provider's Five Trees Program Exceeds Expectations for 2008
NASHVILLE, Tenn., July 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Emma(R), the email marketing and
communications service, announced it has planted 10,000 trees so far in 2008,
thanks to the success of its Five Trees program.

Emma kicked off the year with a monthly initiative to plant five trees for
each customer who chooses Emma to power their email marketing newsletters and
campaigns, with the help of the reforestation non-profit Plant-It 2020. More
than 300 customers each month have signed up for the email service, putting
Emma on track to plant 20,000 trees in 2008, far exceeding the original goal
of 15,000.
Annie Kinnaird, director of business development at Emma, is thrilled at
the program's success. "Five trees doesn't seem like a lot, but 10,000 sure
does. It's a great reminder of how quickly a lot of small contributions can
add up to a big impact for the environment."
Plant-It 2020's executive director, Michael Thau, agrees. "I think it's
terrific we're ahead of our goal and going to exceed it, because the real
benefit is to the environment...that's what we really need to be getting back
to right now. We're grateful to Emma for being a company that doesn't actually
greenwash or greenline, but walks their talk."
The program reminds new email marketing customers of another way they're
contributing to the environment, as Kinnaird points out. "Planting five new
trees underscores all the existing trees they're helping to conserve, just by
moving their marketing efforts from print to email."
Emma allows customers and passers-by to vote on where a portion of each
month's trees should be planted on their blog, www.myemma.com/blog , choosing
from Plant-It 2020's list of approved non-harvest locations in the U.S. So far
this year, trees have been planted in California, Georgia, New York, Ohio,
Tennessee and Wisconsin. The other half of each month's tree total is
designated for the equatorial region of Plant-It 2020's choice.
Emma's tree-planting efforts began in the spring of 2007 with a quirky
campaign called Vote for Trees, which asked people to show their support for
our tall and leafy friends by casting a YES vote. For each yes vote cast -- up
to 5,000 -- Emma would plant a tree. And they did. To learn more about
