MINNEAPOLIS, July 31 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- AchieveMpls is the recipient
of the "Outstanding New Community Partner Award" presented by the University
of Minnesota Career and Community Learning Center. AchieveMpls received this
honor for its outstanding commitment and dedication to the Center's work.
AchieveMpls connected with the University of Minnesota originally in Fall 2007
with the goal of bringing more University student volunteers into the Career &
College Centers in Minneapolis Public Schools. The Career & College Centers
build on existing school, community and government programs to create a more
comprehensive system that ensures all Minneapolis Public School students have
a plan, knowledge and skills for moving from high school to further education
or training and work. The volunteers worked with Minneapolis students on
creating resumes, studying for the ACT/SAT, completing college applications,
writing application essays, and learning how to best navigate college. At the
end of the 2007-08 school year a total of 67 University of Minnesota students
donated 850 hours to volunteering in AchieveMpls' Career & College Centers.
The Award will be officially presented at the Annual Meeting with Community
Partners on the morning of August 6th.

"We are thrilled to receive this award from the University of Minnesota in
recognition of our recruitment of University students as volunteers in MPS
high schools. College students are very valuable role models for high school
students. They demonstrate that it is possible to reach high academic goals
and succeed in higher education," stated Catherine Jordan, President and CEO
of AchieveMpls.
