Aspiring High School Entrepreneurs Pitch Company Ideas at the University of Maryland College Park Program Offers First University-Level Entrepreneurship Course for High School Students in the Region What: Nine student teams unveil their dream company ideas during the last day of the region's first college-level summer entrepreneurship course for high school students offered in the D.C. region by the University of Maryland. Now in its fourth year, with tripled enrollment from year one, the program compresses a 15-week, college-level syllabus into three weeks -- focusing on business fundamentals such as idea validation, market research, strategic marketing, and management -- as well as leadership, ethics and creativity. Who: Nine student teams comprised of 74 students from eight states around the U.S., Washington, D.C. and Turkey pitch the following ideas for new companies: -- Club Connections provides a fun and safe way for teens and pre-teens to socialize and participate in recreational and educational programs after school, during the summer and on weekends. -- Exert Gym offers an affordable gym that offers daycare services in small town locations with limited competition. -- Fresh Out the Pot offers a wide variety of affordable, all-natural, organic foods and drinks to companies and consumers as an alternative to traditional, unhealthy dishes. -- The Green Alt designs and retails fashionable, environmentally friendly apparel to help change peoples' lifestyles. -- Nutri-Co empowers the public by providing an easily understandable, Web-based system focusing on the various types of food available and the nutritional value of these foods. -- Perfect Practice Instruments develops innovative drumsticks allowing unmatched portability, versatility, and durability for both professional and aspiring drummers. -- Remembox connects the elderly and their families by creating and hosting online family photo albums that make their memories last forever. -- Sunrise Valley aims to give seniors the opportunity to make a difference in the world and assert their independence by living in an eco-friendly lifestyle to protect the world for future generations. -- Work Out World creates a fun exercising experience for children in a non-intimidating environment that contains the latest interactive technology.
