The Formosa Foundation and American Enterprise Institute Host Forum LOS ANGELES, July 31 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On August 6, 2008, the Formosa Foundation and the American Enterprise Institute will co-host a forum titled "A Road Map for US-Taiwan Relations: Strengthening Freedom in Asia." The event features Taiwan Policy Working Group co-chairs Dan Blumenthal, resident fellow at AEI, and Randall Schriver, founding partner of Armitage International and senior associate at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, as keynote speakers. Terri Giles, executive director of the Formosa Foundation said that the "recent presidential election in Taiwan and November's historic American presidential election offer a unique opportunity to open a new chapter in the U.S.-Taiwan relationship." Giles emphasizes that the forum "identifies areas for enhanced bilateral and regional cooperation and a road map for strengthening interests between Taiwan, its neighbors, and the United States." The Taiwan Policy Working Group was convened in January 2007 to discuss the status of changing U.S.-Taiwan political, military, and economic relations. Co-chaired by AEI resident fellow Dan Blumenthal and Randall Schriver of Armitage International, the Group's report identifies areas for enhanced bilateral and regional cooperation and for strengthening interests between Taiwan, its neighbors, and the United States. The Taiwan Policy Working Group's groundbreaking report was created with a view towards capitalizing on the changes of governments in Taiwan and the United States. Blumenthal points out that "after years of troubled relations between Washington and Taipei, this report offers a new, pragmatic roadmap for putting U.S.-Taiwan relations back on a positive track and is designed to repair a relationship that has been a keystone of U.S. strategy in Asia for the past fifty years." Blumenthal and Schriver will present and discuss the findings of the report at the August 6 event. The forum will be held on August 6 at 6:30 pm at the Double Tree Hotel located at 888 Montebello Blvd., Rosemead, CA 91770. The event is open and free to the public. Due to limited seating, all attendees must RSVP with the Formosa Foundation (213) 625-1991. Based in Los Angeles, the Formosa Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting greater understanding of the relationship between Taiwan and the United States and preserving and enhancing democracy, human rights and freedom for the people of Taiwan.
