YAKIMA, Wash., July 31 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Special Agent in Charge Kelvin N. Crenshaw and the Yakima Police Department announced the arrests 38 individuals in Operation Summer Heat. The individuals targeted were violent offenders and gang members along with their associates. The individuals were arrested on both federal and state charges involving firearm and narcotics violations during a three-day enforcement action with the Yakima Police Department's gang unit earlier this month. "One of our top priorities is removing crime guns from our streets," said Crenshaw. "Our goal is to have the largest impact on neighborhood safety, not only for the present generation, but for future generations as well." In addition to those arrested, numerous firearms and various amounts of narcotics were seized. Also participating in the enforcement operation were the Department of Corrections, the U.S. Marshals Service, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency, the Drug Enforcement Administration, Toppenish Police Departments, the Yakima Police Department Pro-Act Unit, the City County Narcotics Unit and the Yakima Tribal Police Department. The public is reminded that all persons arrested are only alleged to have committed a crime. A defendant is presumed innocent of the charges and it is the government's burden to prove a defendant's guilt beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
