Karadzic in U.N. court to hear genocide charges
THE HAGUE, July 31 (Reuters) - Former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic appeared before a U.N. war crimes judge for the first time on Thursday to answer genocide charges after his dramatic arrest that ended 11 years on the run.
Karadzic, who faces two charges of genocide as well as charges of persecution and deportation, wore a dark suit and appeared gaunt.
He was flown to the Netherlands from Serbia on Wednesday morning and is being held at the detention centre of the U.N. war crimes tribunal.
