GOVT EYES TAX CREDIT FOR LOW INCOME WORKERS

The Slovak Finance Ministry has proposed introducing a tax
credit to boost the income of workers with low wages and
motivate the long-term unemployed to find jobs, a document
showed on Wednesday.

A supplier to Sony Corp. (6758.T) is expected to build a
7.25 billion crown ($372 million) factory near Sony's plant in
the western Slovak town of Nitra. Sony has a 73 million euro
LCD-television assembly plant in Nitra.

The Government of Prime Minister Robert Fico wants to
oversee budgets of private insurance companies. The move would
increase government control over health care sector after the

ZELEZIARNE PODBREZOVA ACQUISITION

The second-largest Slovak steel maker Zeleziarne Podbrezova
has acquired a majority stake in Barcelona-based pipe maker
Transmesa for 17 million euro. The move is aimed at
strengthening Zeleziarne's market position in Europe.

HIGHWAY TENDER

The National Highway Company (NDS) has opened an
international tender to pick a constructor for a 3.18 billion
crown highway project in central Slovakia. Bidders are due to
express interest by Sept. 17.
