UK broker Tullett confirms GFI merger talks

LONDON, July 31 (Reuters) - Tullett Prebon Plc (TLPR.L), the world's second biggest interdealer broker on Thursday confirmed it is in talks with U.S. rival GFI Group GFIG.O on a possible merger.

If a merger goes ahead, the new group would overtake ICAP (IAP.L) as the world's biggest interdealer broker by headcount.

"Discussions are at an early stage and there can be no certainty that they will result in a transaction," Tullett said in a statement. (Additional reporting by Olesya Dmitracova)
