SINGAPORE Aug 4 (Reuters) - Singapore Telecommunications Ltd (STEL.SI), Southeast Asia's largest telecoms firm, will launch Apple Inc's (AAPL.O) third-generation iPhone in Singapore before the end of August, a source familiar with the matter told Reuters.
SingTel (SGT.AX), the city-state's largest listed company, said in June it would offer the iPhone, but did not provide a date for the release.
"SingTel should be launching the 3G iPhone in Singapore before the end of the month," said the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
In July, Apple rolled out the new iPhone, which offers faster Internet access and improved e-mail features, in more than 20 countries.
The company plans to launch it in 20 more countries on Aug. 22. It has set a target of selling 10 million iPhones this year. (Reporting by Jennifer Tan; Editing by Paul Bolding) (jennifer.tan@thomsonreuters.com; +65-6403 5660; Reuters Messaging: jennifer.tan.reuters.com@reuters.net)
