Company Strengthening Enterprise Mobility, Information Management
Leadership; Showcasing Strategies for Continued Growth
LAS VEGAS--(Business Wire)--
Sybase, Inc. (NYSE:SY), the largest enterprise software and
services company exclusively focused on managing and mobilizing
information, welcomes a community of developers, database
administrators, IT managers, sales professionals and executives from
around the world to Las Vegas this week for its 10th annual TechWave
User Training and Solutions Conference. This year's event will
highlight Sybase's Unwired Enterprise strategy, which brings together
information management and mobility solutions to enable enterprises to
unwire their data, employees and customers.

"This is an exciting time for Sybase. We have been successfully
executing on our Unwired Enterprise strategy for several years and its
growing adoption is underscored by our record results in 2007 and the
first half of 2008," said John Chen, chairman, CEO and president of
Sybase. "With enterprises' customers and employees demanding
real-time, free-formed access to information, the vision of the
Unwired Enterprise is continuing to become a reality. Sybase is
uniquely positioned to provide the infrastructure and access through
our analytics, mobility software and network hubs."

"Sybase is more efficient, more productive, and better able to
capitalize on new opportunities than ever before," Chen added. "We
look forward to sharing this excitement and showcasing our innovation
during our annual TechWave event."

Throughout this week, Sybase will follow through on its promise of
unwiring the enterprise by unveiling a series of new product releases
designed to meet the needs of developers and end-users alike -- from
mobility platforms to data management systems, and developer tools.
Additional details surrounding these innovations and announcements
include:

   The Future of Mobility:

-- New Mobility Platform For Unwiring The Enterprise

Sybase(R) Unwired Platform is the next generation architecture for
mobilizing enterprise applications. With this new architecture, Sybase
is fulfilling its promise to unwire the enterprise and extend it to
employees and end consumers by providing a single, complete mobile
platform. Sybase Unwired Platform addresses the multichannel access
gateway (MAG) requirements of enterprises with a single, strategic
architecture that eases development, deployment and management of
strategic mobile applications to a range of mobile device types. In
addition, it streamlines device security and management, and may
significantly reduce a company's total cost of ownership by enabling
strategic mobile deployments versus tactical or siloed mobile
application approaches.

-- Enhanced Information Anywhere(R) Suite Management and Security
        with Afaria(R) 6.0

The latest version of Afaria, a core component of the Sybase
Information Anywhere Suite, will include a new relay server
architecture that works across multiple Information Anywhere Suite
components to offer highly secure communications for data
synchronization and mobile device management functions. Additional
capabilities within Afaria 6.0 will be focused on reducing IT
administration costs, including a new policy-based device management
capability, support for Open Mobile Alliance Client Provisioning (OMA
CP), and a local password recovery feature.

   Information Management Made Easy:

   -- Availability of SQL Anywhere(R) 11

Users can now take advantage of the latest enhancements in SQL
Anywhere 11. The self-managing, enterprise-caliber database and
synchronization solution has been a leader in enabling robust, secure
applications, and is widely deployed in environments with little or no
onsite IT support. SQL Anywhere 11 boasts over 200 new features and
enhancements and continues to redefine functionality typically only
found in enterprise-class databases. The four primary areas of
enhancement for SQL Anywhere 11 include overall performance,
reliability and scalability, accelerated frontline analytics, advanced
data synchronization and greater freedom and flexibility for
developers.

-- Availability of SQL Anywhere(R) for the Web Developer
        Community

SQL Anywhere Web Edition brings the industry-leading data
management and synchronization features of SQL Anywhere to the Web
developer community. Version 11 of SQL Anywhere provides Web
developers with data access APIs commonly used in Web development, the
ability to synchronize with MySQL databases, a light-weight Web server
built into the database able to run PHP scripts, along with a new Web
Edition that allows developers to deploy free SQL Anywhere Server
databases.

-- Availability of Sybase PowerBuilder(R) 11.5 for .NET

The newest version of PowerBuilder, the premier 4GL rapid
application development (RAD) tool, continues Sybase's longstanding
commitment to simplify complex data access, manipulation and
presentation through its patented DataWindow technology, especially
for developers looking to deploy PowerBuilder applications to the .NET
framework. Key enhancements include a more visually appealing user
interface; timely PowerBuilder updates corresponding with releases of
Microsoft technologies for .NET; flexible RMDBMS and application
server support; flexible deployment options and simplified security.

-- First TPC-C Benchmark Using SQL Anywhere Server

SQL Anywhere version 11 on Dell PowerEdge has achieved outstanding
price/performance results by delivering an audited TPC-C result at a
cost of $0.85 per transaction, demonstrating that high-performance
database applications can be delivered inexpensively. This TPC-C
benchmark using SQL Anywhere achieved several records, including best
price/performance of any system priced under $65,000, best performance
of published TPC-C results for systems priced under $35,000 and first
ever TPC-C benchmark with a total cost under $20,000.

-- Availability of Sybase Analytic Appliance

The Sybase Analytic Appliance combines Sybase IQ(R) analytics
server -- the industry leader in column-based databases used by more
than 1,400 customers worldwide -- with other category-leading
technologies. Today's announcement ensures customers can obtain an
appliance that is specifically designed to provide extreme analytics
to alleviate overburdened data warehouses, data marts and reporting
systems. Its success has already been demonstrated among early
adopters with its ease of implementation, fast time-to-value, lower
maintenance costs and its ability to quickly analyze vast amounts of
corporate data at an affordable price point.

   Innovator Award Winners

-- On Wednesday, August 6, Sybase will announce the winners of
its 2008 Innovator Awards. The awards will be presented to
customers and partners that have demonstrated the most
innovative use of Sybase technologies as the foundation for
cutting-edge applications that enable themselves, or their
customers, to succeed on the frontlines of business and also
succeed in data management, business intelligence and
enterprise development and modeling, as well as mobile
        solutions.
