MeGlobe(TM) launches public beta of instant translation IM client
LOS ANGELES, Aug. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Eliminating language barriers and
creating a truly borderless society is lofty talk, but that is the challenge
taken on by MeGlobe(TM), a next-generation communications company that today
is launching their free public beta real-time translation services for instant
messaging (IM). Put simply, MeGlobe is an instant messaging web application
on steroids that enables online chat even if users don't speak the same
tongue.
Going global is easy. MeGlobe users simply sign up by providing basic
information such as username, password and their preferred language of the
14 currently available. Once these simple steps are completed, users are
ready to start chatting with people all over the world. There are no
downloads or installations required, and it can be used on any computer that
has a browser and Internet connection. MeGlobe is powered by Jabber software,
often referred to as "the Linux of instant messaging."
In this unprecedented era of globalization, erasing language borders is a
necessity, yet few people know multiple languages fluently enough to IM with
friends across language borders. MeGlobe combines the desire for cultural
literacy with increased computer literacy in a fun, simple and no-hassle tool.
Want tips for a trip to Tuscany? Want to chat about basketball at the Beijing
Olympics? Need to network with eBay users around the world? Working on a
project with a team in Munich? MeGlobe democratizes communication by making
multi-lingual conversations in real time possible for everyone.
Language inherently presents translation issues but can be even more
problematic in the shorthand world of instant messaging. MeGlobe is
community-powered, and the site is constantly improving translations during
this public beta phrase with the help of the enthusiastic MeGlobe community
and a bug-tracking system. In fact, interaction and community building are a
big part of the company's mission as Chief Executive Officer Giancarlo
Tallarico emphatically states, "At MeGlobe we aspire to encourage global
neighbors to communicate across language borders. 'Lost in translation' is now
an outdated phrase."
