Isetan, Leading Fashion Retailer in Japan Expands Teradata Platform for Data-Warehouse Driven Marketing Management
System Used to Analyze Vast Quantities of Merchandise and Customer
Data
MIAMISBURG, Ohio & TOKYO--(Business Wire)--
Teradata Corporation (NYSE: TDC), the global leader in enterprise
data warehousing, announced today that Tokyo-based Isetan Mitsukoshi
System Solutions Limited, which provides a central information system
to Isetan Company, Ltd., a leading presence in the international
retailing industry, has expanded its Teradata strategic information
platform.
The Teradata strategic information platform is used by the Isetan
to analyze enormous volumes of merchandise and customer data,
providing business insight and marketing intelligence for many retail
business decision-makers and analysts at Isetan. Query performance and
scalability are important to Isetan, and are considered
differentiating attributes for the Teradata business intelligence
platform. The Teradata system has been in use at Isetan for a decade.
Over the years, it has been expanded to support increasing numbers of
business users and growing volumes of data. The latest expansion will
be launched this month.
Isetan is highly regarded for its unparalleled abilities to
analyze and utilize information to improve business performance and
better serve its millions of customers in many countries. Isetan's
analytical capabilities are particularly strong in merchandising and
customer intelligence, and together represent vital management tools
that support Isetan's growing international business. The Teradata
platform provides enterprise-class visibility to detailed information
such as sales, transaction and inventory data.
Specifically, Teradata provides the analytical environment for the
Isetan I-Card, an in-house credit card program and part of an intense
focus on customer relationship-building initiatives. Detailed point of
sale data is fed to the Teradata system when customers use the Isetan
I-card, identifying each customer, purchase, date and store or
transaction channel. This pool of information, protected by powerful
data security tools and access policies, is transformed to actionable
intelligence so that Isetan's marketers can contact individual
customers with the most relevant and timely offers.
Isetan is expected to grow further under the guidance and
leadership of Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings Ltd. The retailer has
innovative plans to integrate its enormous intelligence systems with
other department store chains. The expansion of its present Teradata
information platform is an important effort at the core of this
project.
"Isetan is making a strong intelligence platform even stronger,"
said Ed Dupee, vice president, Teradata global retail industry
solutions. "Teradata appreciates the confidence Isetan has placed in
our people and our technology."
Teradata's momentum continues to grow among retailers as they
modernize and integrate critical information by replacing limited-use
data appliances and data marts as well as slow, aging legacy data
systems. Teradata's presence in the retail business includes such
organizations as Ace Hardware, American Eagle Outfitters, Cabela's,
COOP Norden, Cortefiel, Groupe Casino, Limited Brands, JC Penney,
Hallmark, hhgregg, Hudson's Bay Company, Lowe's, Migros Turk, Migros
Switzerland, Office Depot, OTTO (Germany) , Overstock.com, Radio
Shack, Tesco (UK), Timberland, Winn-Dixie, the world's leading
hypermarket retailers and the foremost fashion department store chains
and around the world.
