WASHINGTON--(Business Wire)--
The Intermodal Insurance Company (IIC), RRG, an
insured/member-owned captive insurance company domiciled in
Washington, D.C., has implemented a Driver Rehabilitation Program
requiring drivers and owner-operators who do not exhibit appropriate
driving behaviors as identified by motor vehicle driving record (MVR)
monitoring or involvement in an accident to attend a Smith System
Driver Training Seminar. Smith System is the recognized leader in
professional driver training.

"Identifying, recruiting and training new drivers and
owner-operators is a very expensive process. Now our members can
reduce costs by improving the quality and behavior of the drivers they
already employ," said T. Zack Cooper of the national program
administrator, Zack Cooper & Associates, Inc.

The decision to implement the program was made at the company's
recent joint Shareholders and Board of Directors meeting. As IIC pays
for the program, there will be no charge to drivers or the companies
they work for to participate.

Before the Driver Rehabilitation Program was adopted, drivers with
bad habits as identified by pull notices, poor annual reviews or
accident involvement would be confronted by the company's safety
director for disciplinary action and even terminated based on the
severity of the offense.

IIC policies are issued by National Interstate Insurance Company,
which is rated "A" (Excellent), VIII by A. M. Best Company and is
admitted in all 50 states. National Interstate reinsures a portion of
the indemnity risk with IIC. This structure allows owners of the
captive company to share in the underwriting profits and investment
income while minimizing individual exposure.

"We are pleased that Smith System has been added to the package of
risk control services being provided to the IIC member companies,"
said Terry E. Phillips, senior vice president, National Interstate
Insurance Company. "This training makes drivers better by teaching and
reinforcing key defensive driving behaviors. We are pleased with the
success of the National Interstate/Intermodal relationship and we are
very confident that proactive thinking like this, on the part of the
program administrator and the membership, will continue to make a good
program even better."

Cooper agrees. "This is a win-win situation for all concerned," he
said. "The drivers become better, safer drivers, while retaining their
jobs, which is good for them, their families, the companies that
employ them, and the motoring public."
