BETHESDA, Md., Aug. 5, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- OPNET Technologies, Inc.
(Nasdaq:OPNT), a leading provider of solutions for managing networks and
applications, today announced a new release of its industry-leading ACE(tm)
Analyst solution for network-based application analysis. This release delivers
new one-of-a kind analysis capabilities for organizations deploying wide area
network (WAN) optimization devices from vendors including Riverbed Technology,
Cisco Systems, and Juniper Networks.

WAN optimization devices accelerate the performance of applications that are
accessed over a wide area network. They employ a variety of techniques to
address common sources of slow network response, including latency, congestion,
and inefficient application communications. These devices have become
increasingly popular among IT organizations, as distributed use of business
applications has increased, as has the richness and size of content transferred
by applications. However, the introduction of WAN optimization, while providing
obvious benefits, interferes with the ability of the IT organization to
effectively manage application performance on an end-to-end basis. The
techniques that are applied by these devices obscure the actual application
behavior over the network, making it more difficult to troubleshoot performance
problems.

This latest release of OPNET's ACE Analyst software restores the end-to-end
visibility of application transactions that traverse networks employing WAN
optimization. It provides network-tier visibility, isolating the application
transaction from other activity that is introduced by the WAN optimization
devices to effectively troubleshoot slow response time.

This follows OPNET's recent joint announcement of a partnership with Riverbed
Technology, an industry leader in wide-area data services solutions. This latest
release of ACE Analyst incorporates new capability to understand the proprietary
communications among Riverbed Steelhead WAN acceleration appliances. We believe
ACE Analyst is the industry's first solution to provide detailed visibility into
applications accelerated by Steelhead appliances for a clear view of the
end-to-end transaction, enabling effective application performance
troubleshooting.

ACE Analyst also enables "what-if" predictive analysis for planning, as well as
validating proposed fixes to response time problems. It enables organizations to
more effectively plan for deploying WAN optimization devices by identifying
sites and applications that would likely realize the greatest benefits.

"This latest release of ACE Analyst provides breakthrough functionality for
users of WAN optimization." stated Alain Cohen, OPNET President & CTO.
"Organizations are making significant investments in these devices to ensure
that their users experience the best possible end-to-end response time for
critical business applications. OPNET's ACE Analyst embeds an understanding of
WAN optimization technologies to restore the level of application visibility
that is critical to effectively troubleshoot end-to-end performance when
problems occur. We believe ACE Analyst is the only solution on the market that
provides this visibility."
