Tom O'Riordan Brings Regulatory, Funds and Additional Structured Products Expertise to the London Office NEW YORK--(Business Wire)-- Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP, one of the world's leading law firms, announced today that Thomas O'Riordan will join the firm as a partner in the Financial Regulatory Practice, resident in the London office. Mr. O'Riordan was a practicing barrister with Quadrant Chambers and will collaborate with his new colleagues on structured finance and financial services, regulation and related areas. "Tom brings a unique and wide ranging skill set to our European clients and to our U.S. clients with interests in Europe. With diverse experience in market regulation, structured finance, banking, funds, insolvency and litigation arising out of these areas, he is an ideal complement to our London team," said Christopher White, Cadwalader's Chairman. "We are pleased to welcome him back to the firm." "Tom is an established expert on the regulatory issues that arise in developing and marketing complex financial structures. His return to the firm gives us a unique ability to provide regulatory advice at a very high level in both the United Kingdom and the United States, to integrate the results of that advice, and to bring it to bear on the execution of transactions," said Steven D. Lofchie, Head of the firm's Financial Regulatory Practice. Mr. O'Riordan's practice encompasses all areas of international finance and banking, including repo and secured lending, derivatives, insurance and reinsurance, capital adequacy, insolvency, and funds and fund-linked products. In addition, he has litigated a number of derivative and complex financial products cases. He also acts in regulatory disputes, as well as for U.K. regulators and industry and trade organizations such as ISDA and the CMSA. "I have worked closely with Cadwalader lawyers since 1997, and I admire and respect their skills and dedication to serving clients," said Mr. O'Riordan. "With such an impressive reputation among financial industry participants, I will be able to help clients structure complex products and transactions and also to negotiate and document such matters on their behalf, a role not typically assumed by a barrister. I look forward to the opportunities that the Cadwalader platform provides and to collaborating not only with Department Chair Steven Lofchie, a highly regarded counselor on U.S. financial regulatory matters, but with Alix Prentice, a very talented and highly regarded Special Counsel in the London office, who advises banks, broker-dealers and investment managers on the structural and day-to-day issues that arise out of doing business in a regulated environment, with particular emphasis on business conducted between the U.S. and U.K." Mr. O'Riordan rejoins Cadwalader from Quadrant Chambers, a barristers' chambers specializing in commercial litigation. He was previously Retained Counsel to Cadwalader, a position he assumed following serving as Head of the European Transactional Legal Department in London with the Nomura Group. Prior to Nomura, he was European General Counsel and Head of the Legal and Tax Department at the London branch of Republic National Bank of New York and General Counsel at Sumitomo Finance International plc.
