IDG World Expo Completes Successful LinuxWorld Conference & Expo and Second Annual Next Generation Data Center Event
Conferences bring together Linux and open source community to
discuss emerging trends, unveil new products and participate in
agenda-setting educational sessions
FRAMINGHAM, Mass.--(Business Wire)--
IDG World Expo, the leading producer of world-class tradeshows and
events, today announced the successful completion of LinuxWorld(R) and
Next Generation Data Center(TM) Conference & Expo (NGDC(TM)), both of
which were held August 4-7, 2008 at the Moscone Center in San
Francisco. Combined, the two shows attracted close to 10,000
participants and 200 exhibitors from around the globe. Each event
showcased the latest open source and data center technologies, and
boasted a conference program with almost 200 combined educational
sessions, tutorials and hands-on-labs across 17 tracks, including
applications, mobile Linux, virtualization and advanced facilities
management in the data center.
Key themes that resonated throughout the show were mobile Linux,
power consumption and green technologies, embedded, and
virtualization. Keynote presentations from executives at Merrill
Lynch, McKesson, Cisco Systems, Inc., IBM, Citrix Systems Inc. and
Lucasfilm, Ltd., explored many of these themes.
The exhibit floor featured key companies that are driving the
future of Linux, open source, and the evolving data center, including
Astaro Corp., Barracuda Networks, COPAN Systems, Opengear, Canonical,
ACCESS, Oracle Corp., DataSynapse, CISCO, Fujitsu, Intel, Talend,
Brocade, Ubucon, Bivio Networks, VMware, SugarCRM, Rackable Systems,
Wind River, and more. Many exhibitors leveraged attendee traffic and
the media spotlight on both LinuxWorld and NGDC to announce their
latest product and service offerings, or other breaking news relevant
to the industry.
Additional highlights included the new Mobile Linux Conference,
the new Linux Garage, Software Central, Installfest for Schools, an
Open Source Voting demonstration, and the Golden Penguin Bowl. The
LinuxWorld.com Product Excellence Awards were announced on Tuesday,
August 5 and a full list of winners can be found at:

"This year's LinuxWorld and NGDC events saw expanded participation
from several companies including Brocade, Canonical, Dice and IBM, as
well as new participation from organizations such as Linagora,
DataSynapse, Foundry Networks and Fusion io," said Melinda Kendall,
vice president and general manager, LinuxWorld Conference & Expo. "In
addition, we were extremely pleased with attendee response to new
conference content and show floor highlights that included a dedicated
Mobile Linux Conference, the Open Source Voting demonstration and the
Installfest for Schools, which gave the open source community an
opportunity to give back to San Francisco. We look forward to the 2009
events."
All of the keynote addresses from LinuxWorld and NGDC can be
