NEW YORK Aug 13 (Reuters) - LDK Solar Co (LDK.N) has signed a five-year contract to supply about 300 megawatts of multicrystaline solar wafers to India's XL Telecom & Energy Ltd XLTL.BO starting in the first quarter of 2009.

Earlier this week, LDK raised its forecast for 2008 shipments of the photovoltaic solar equipment to between 750 megawatts and 770 megawatts, up from the 560 megawatts to 580 megawatts it had previously expected.

LDK is also building its own plant to produce polysilicon, the material that turns sunlight into electricity inside most solar cells. (Reporting by Matt Daily; Editing by Lisa Von Ahn)
