Forterus, Inc. Completes Its Acquisition of A Better Tomorrow Treatment Center
Inc. for $12.85 Million
HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif., Aug. 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Forterus, Inc.
(OTC Bulletin Board: FTER) has completed its acquisition of A Better Tomorrow
Treatment Center Inc., a fast growing Southern California-based drug, alcohol
and gambling treatment center.
Forterus acquired Murrieta-based A Better Tomorrow for a purchase price of
$12.825 million. The purchase price was 2.85 times the Annual Gross Revenue
of the clinic. Annual Gross Revenue is defined as total revenue for the
preceding 12 months. The final purchase price may be adjusted if necessary
when A Better Tomorrow's audited financials are filed with the Securities and
Exchange Commission.
"We are pleased with this acquisition, and expect that our financial
backing will not only help A Better Tomorrow develop additional treatment
programs, but enable the treatment center to eventually acquire additional
facilities to expand its treatment programs in California and across the
country," said Forterus CEO Paul Howarth.
Established in 2004, A Better Tomorrow has consistently achieved annual
revenue growth rates of 33.7 to 48.9 percent, reflecting not only its
development of successful drug, alcohol and gambling treatment programs, but
the continuing shortage of affordable, private addiction treatment centers.
"Many families do not want to send their loved ones to government funded
addiction treatment programs that mainly serve individuals who have been
ordered into treatment after committing a crime," Howarth said. "And while
there are a handful of high-end rehabilitation centers that cater to the rich
and famous, there are very few high quality, private clinics that are
affordable. That's the niche A Better Tomorrow is targeting."
A Better Tomorrow is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of
Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), placing it in the top 5 percent of drug and
alcohol treatment centers in California. And its range of treatment programs
continues to grow.
Initially providing 28-day residential drug and alcohol treatment, A
Better Tomorrow has since added additional services in response to market
demand, including a gambling treatment program; a pain management program to
help individuals who are addicted to prescription painkillers; an outpatient
treatment program that provides three hours of treatment, three days per week;
an adolescent treatment program; and treatment services for Spanish speakers.
The clinic also recently launched a financing program for clients with good
credit histories.
A Better Tomorrow has developed these programs with the help of a highly
experienced team of counselors and clinicians. And Howarth expects that
demand for A Better Tomorrow's addiction treatment services will continue to
grow, citing federal statistics.
In fact, nearly one in 10 Americans has a family member who suffers from a
drug or alcohol addiction, according to the federal Substance Abuse and Mental
Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
Prescription drug abuse is also a growing problem, with radio talk show
host Rush Limbaugh and the late Supreme Court Justice William Rehnquist being
among the better-known individuals suffering from this type of addiction.
Some 6.1% of Americans took prescription drugs for non-medical purposes in
2004, according to SAMHSA's latest statistics.
Children are abusing prescription drugs, too. According to the National
Institute on Drug Abuse, 9.3 percent of 12th graders reported using Vicodin
without a prescription during the past year in 2004, while 5 percent were
using OxyContin. Meanwhile, roughly 3 to 4 percent of U.S. adults are
considered to be problem gamblers, according to the National Council on
Problem Gambling.
