MONTREAL (Hollywood Reporter) - Canadian producer Peace Arch Entertainment has picked up North American rights to the Jean-Claude Van Damme-starring parody "JCVD" ahead of its North American bow at the Toronto International Film Festival.

In the Mabrouk El Mechri-directed mockumentary from Gaumont, Van Damme plays himself in the midst of a hostage situation in his native Belgium.

Toronto-based Peace Arch intends a fall release for the movie, which was acquired as part of a joint venture recently struck between the Canadian company and Britain's ContentFilm.

"JCVD" screens in the Toronto festival on September 4.
