New York is Top Destination for LowFares.com Online Shoppers Searching for Labor Day Weekend Airline Tickets
--Las Vegas Moves to Number 2 Spot--
LOS ANGELES--(Business Wire)--
As summer winds down, savvy travelers shopping for Labor Day
travel bargains are making New York their top destination, according
to LowFares.com(TM), a leading travel comparison search site for
airline tickets, hotels, car rentals and vacation packages. For six of
the past seven weeks, Las Vegas led as the favorite destination, but
New York took the top spot in the most recent data.
LowFares further reported that customer searches and purchases
have increased substantially as the popular holiday weekend
approaches. The number of searches for Labor Day travel increased
dramatically in recent weeks, growing by 27% percent week over week.
Search patterns reveal that travelers from the southwestern United
States are staying close to home, while those in the northeast are
venturing out for their end-of-summer trips. Las Vegas, Orlando, and
Los Angeles are among the top destinations.
LowFares, a comparison site that enables online shoppers to search
multiple travel partners simultaneously, is becoming increasingly
popular with online travelers. The ability to make quick, side-by-side
comparisons for rates from leading travel websites adds value to the
shopping experience.
"Based on the number of searches for Labor Day weekend travel,
it's clear that people still want to escape and have fun, but do so in
a budget-minded way," said Greg Samson, General Manager of LowFares.
"Both airlines and hotels are offering discounted travel options for
this holiday weekend and it appears that travelers are interested in
these alternatives. New York, in particular, has experienced above
average increases in hotel rates this year, but travelers may also be
enjoying various travel incentives offered in this market for the
holiday weekend."
Samson noted, "Travelers continue to be diligent when shopping for
airline tickets despite the fact that oil prices are moderating and
some airlines are conducting fare sales. Booking early is still a
smart decision because the number of flights to a destination is being
systemically reduced. Airline fees add to costs, so buying smart is
the best defense. Combining air and hotel is another way to save."
Labor Day weekend searches were tracked for a period of eight
weeks.
