John Hamilton Appointed National Archives Congressional Affairs Director

WASHINGTON, Aug. 27 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Archivist of the United
States Allen Weinstein announced today the appointment of John Hamilton to the
position of Director of Congressional Affairs for the National Archives. Mr.
Hamilton will assume his new position on September 15, 2008.
In making the announcement, the Archivist said, "I welcome John Hamilton
who has nearly twenty years of Capitol Hill legislative policy and advocacy
experience and has been a national leader in the higher education community.
He has proven ability to communicate the importance of higher education and
scholarly research to government, the business community and the public. I
look forward to working with him to inform and educate the U.S. Congress on
the priorities and accomplishments of the National Archives."
For the last 12 years, Mr. Hamilton has led federal relations efforts for
the University of California (UC) in Washington, DC, representing ten
campuses, five medical centers and three Department of Energy National
Laboratories. As UC's senior federal relations official, his fields of
expertise include the federal budget and appropriations processes, science and
technology policy, and higher education programs and regulations. During his
tenure at the university, he held a variety of leadership positions with
national higher education associations, built coalitions, led task forces, and
chaired working groups with governmental relations peers in nearly every
state.
For four years prior to working at the University of California, Mr.
Hamilton served as the assistant director for federal relations at the
National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges where he
was an advocate to Congress and federal agencies for 170 public research
universities on key policy and funding issues.
From 1989 to 1992, Mr. Hamilton was a legislative assistant to U.S.
Congressman Robert Traxler, following issues related to education, science,
labor, civil service, transportation and the federal courts.
Mr. Hamilton is a native of Michigan. He received a BA in history from
Saginaw Valley State University in Michigan and an MBA from an international
graduate school at Kyung Hee University in Seoul, South Korea.
