Local Non-Profit Readies Students For School

Thousands of Backpacks Stuffed and Distributed to Kids August 27th and 29th

HORSHAM, Pa., Aug. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- In less than a week, masses of
students in the Delaware Valley will return to school. And with them will go
a similar number of backpacks. But what about the 130,000 homeless and
low-income students, will they have the supplies they need to start the year
off ready to learn, particularly when it costs an average of $98.37 for these
items? Local non-profit Cradles to Crayons is ensuring that many will through
its second annual Backpack-A-Thon program.
On Wednesday, August 27th from 9:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. volunteers will come to
the Cradles to Crayons warehouse in Horsham to stuff thousands of backpacks
with items collected throughout summer supply drives. Ready for packing are
composition books, pencils, sharpeners, erasers, pocket folders, crayons,
rulers, glue sticks, pens and more.
"Many generous individuals and corporations contributed backpacks, school
supplies and monetary donations to make this program a success," explains
Jennifer Case, executive director of Cradles to Crayons. "This will help us
as we attempt to meet the over 3,400 requests we have received for backpacks
from local social service agencies."
On Friday, August 29th from 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. backpacks will be
distributed to social service agency representatives and the School District
of Philadelphia at the Cradles to Crayons warehouse located at 141 Gibraltar
Road in Horsham.
