Conference Also Showcases First User-Developed Innovations For
MPower's Open CRM Software for Nonprofits
DALLAS--(Business Wire)--
Keith Bright, one of the world's leading evangelists for open
approaches to technology and a key leader of IBM's initiative to drive
innovation using Linux and open source software, will be the keynote
speaker at "The Orange Conference," hosted by MPower for clients,
partners and other members of the nonprofit community.
MPower provides the most open, flexible, and powerful software for
nonprofit constituent relationship management (CRM) and fundraising.
The theme of the company's three-day conference (September 24-26, at
the Embassy Suites and Frisco Convention Center, in Frisco, Texas,
just north of Dallas) is "Freedom to Fundraise," reflecting the
event's focus on helping charitable groups learn more about using open
source CRM software to increase donor engagement and giving.
In his keynote, Bright will share examples of how open source
software is enabling a wide range of private and public sector
organizations to operate more efficiently and effectively and explain
why open source likewise is the future of software for nonprofits.
Bright is IBM's global development program director for the
company's Linux Technology Center, which works to accelerate the
growth of Linux as an enterprise operating system. (Linux is the most
popular open source operating system for all types of computers and an
alternative to the proprietary Windows operating systems.) Bright's
experience includes leading open source projects with some of the
world's largest and/or most influential organizations.
"Working daily with all types of companies, governmental entities
and more, I have witnessed the transformative power of open source
software on how these organizations operate," said Bright. "They are
significantly holding down their IT costs and able to have the exact
functionality they need when they need it. Now MPower is making it
possible for the nonprofit community - which is even more
resource-constrained but does some of the most important work on the
planet - to derive comparable benefits with their CRM systems."
The Orange Conference's nearly 20 sessions also will include the
latest strategies, practical tips and creative ideas for high impact,
multi-channel marketing and communications to cultivate strong
lifetime relationships with constituents. Additionally, nonprofits
that have taken advantage of MPower's open architecture and developed
new functionality to meet their organizations' needs will showcase
these innovations which are being contributed to the user community
for the benefit of all. (For more information on the first
user-developed innovations to MPower, please see the August 7, 2008
news release at http://www.mpoweropen.com/first_wave_august0708.shtml)
This is MPower's first conference since the company began offering
its mature and full feature nonprofit CRM software as an open source
solution in March. Because it is open source, MPower is available to
nonprofits without licensing fees and with full access to its source
code. Access to the source code gives MPower users freedom to modify
the software for: 1) integration with other mission-critical
applications and 2) developing the features and functionality their
organizations uniquely need for managing constituent relationships and
driving donations.
By contrast, users of proprietary solutions must pay hefty
licensing fees and cannot modify the software so they are held hostage
by their vendors' roadmaps - they can only get new features and
functionality that the vendor decides to develop or if they pay for
expensive custom development.
