Americans Elect Top Dog for Obama Family

Now that Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama has chosen his vice
president, it's time for him to concentrate on another important selection:
family dog. The American Kennel Club(R) (AKC) will announce the breed
selected by the public via their http://www.presidentialpup.com poll, on
Thursday, August 28th at 10 a.m. at the American Kennel Club Headquarters, 260
Madison Avenue, between 38th and 39th Streets, Manhattan.
The AKC launched the poll after reports that -- win or lose -- the Obamas
promised their two daughters a dog after the presidential election. More than
42,000 people cast their vote over the seven-week campaign. The race was
tight -- almost as tight as the contest between Obama and Clinton for the
Democratic Nomination -- with the winning breed edging out the runner up by
just a (dog) hair.
WHAT: The AKC makes remarks and showcases the versatility of the winning
breed -- from therapy dog to agility and obedience champion, to
hunting dog, this breed is a well rounded and winning candidate
for any family.
Dogs and puppies of various sizes and coat types will be on hand
as well as experienced breeders who can help the Obamas choose the
right dog and acquire it responsibly, whether they seek a puppy,
adult, or rescue dog.
In the spirit of bipartisanship, the Yorkshire Terrier and
Springer Spaniel, the two breeds owned by Republication Nominee
John McCain, will also be on hand.
"We are pleased that no matter the outcome of the election, it
looks like we will have a dog-loving family in the White House,"
says AKC spokesperson Lisa Peterson.
WHEN: Thursday, August 28: Press check-in at 9:30 a.m.
Remarks from AKC staff at 10:15 a.m.
Photo opp. ends at 11 a.m.
