Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete will join U.S. Agency for International
Development (USAID) Acting Deputy Administrator James Kunder, U.S. Ambassador
to Tanzania Mark Green, USAID Assistant Administrator for Africa Katherine
Almquist, and U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) Deputy Director
Leocadia Zak, at a ceremony to mark the U.S. government's commitment to
strengthen and help improve the lives of the Tanzanian people.
Kunder will announce a $20 million joint credit guarantee currently being
negotiated among USAID, CRDB Bank and the African Development Bank. The
credit guarantee would increase access to credit for Tanzania's small farmers
and agribusinesses, promoting agricultural output, employment and economic
growth. Additionally, USTDA will award a grant for more than $620,000 toward
establishing operational protocols in the implementation and enforcement of
electricity, petroleum and natural gas regulations based on international best
practices. Both agreements underscore the important relationship between the
U.S. and Tanzania.
