DETROIT, Aug. 27 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Creative Cities Summit 2.0
(CCS2) which takes place in DetroitOctober 13-15, 2008 today announced an
exciting opportunity for urban place makers and social innovators to showcase
their project or vision for the creative city using the Japanese-developed
Pecha Kucha process.
"We are asking applicants to submit their highly visual, conceptually
distilled Pecha Kucha style presentation of no more than seven minutes using
15-20 slides on one of two topics - new ideas for urban amenities or new uses
for old buildings by Friday, September 12th," said CCS2 Producer Karen Gagnon.
Presentations for the New Ideas for Urban Amenities session can address
topics like urban agriculture, transit, leisure and retail, housing, DIY
business, parks, civic infrastructure and other public spaces.
Presentations for the Old Buildings and New Ideas session should be
inspired ideas from architects, designers, builders, and their clients that
preserve the integrity and physical interest of our cities while making them
relevant for this century.
The concept was conceived and originated in 2003 in Tokyo by Astrid Klein
and Mark Dytham of Klein Dytham Architecture as a way for designers to present
new ideas in a concise, creative and efficient manner. It has spread virally
across the world and is now used in a variety of academic, artistic and
entrepreneurial contexts. Learn more about Pecha Kucha on sites like Pecha
Kucha Night and Wikipedia.
Ashley Aidenbaum, who works for the Cool Cities Initiative through Public
Policy Associates, Inc., will moderate New Ideas for Urban Amenities and
Cezanne Charles from ArtServe Michigan will moderate Old Buildings and New
Ideas.
"We want these Pecha Kucha style presentations to showcase new and
relevant ideas, promote outstanding examples and sometimes challenge
convention," added Gagnon.
Sept. 12 is the deadline for the Pecha Kucha submissions. It is also the
early bird registration deadline for the conference. Register online today at
