Imperial says FY headline EPS down 49 pct

JOHANNESBURG | Wed Aug 27, 2008 1:26am EDT

JOHANNESBURG Aug 27 (Reuters) - Africa's biggest transport and logistics company, Imperial Holdings (IPLJ.J), posted a 49 percent drop in full-year headline earnings per share (EPS) from continuing operations on Wednesday.

The group said headline EPS for the year to end June stood at 615 cents, in line with its own forecast of a fall of 49-54 percent. It said the decline was due to restructuring to strengthen its balance sheet and a downturn in the consumer economy.

Imperial's revenue from continuing operations was up by 3 percent to 56 billion rand. (Reporting by Serena Chaudhry)
