UPDATE 1-Mineworkers union says worker dies at Implats mine

JOHANNESBURG Aug 27 (Reuters) - South Africa's mineworkers union said on Wednesday a worker died in a shaft at Impala Platinum Ltd.'s (Implats) (IMPJ.J) Rustenburg mine, but the company said mining was still continuing.

Alice Lourens, a spokeswoman for Implats, the world's No. 2 platinum producer, confirmed the incident, and said it happened when the ground on which the worker was standing gave way.

The National Union of Mineworkers said the incident took place on Tuesday.
