FACTBOX: Security developments in Afghanistan

(Reuters) - Following are security developments in Afghanistan at 1030 GMT (6:30 a.m. EDT) on Wednesday:

NANGARHAR - Police recovered the body of a kidnapped Japanese aid worker in the eastern province of Nangarhar, the provincial governor said.

PAKTIKA - A joint operation by foreign and Afghan forces killed some 30 insurgents on Tuesday in the southeastern province of Paktika, a provincial official said.

HELMAND - Taliban insurgents clashed with police in the southern province of Helmand on Tuesday, and 18 militants were killed, a police official said. There were no police casualties.

KHOST - U.S.-led troops killed an Afghan international cricket player, Rahmat Wali, in a raid on his house in eastern Khost province on Tuesday night and arrested his brother, two officials said.

GHAZNI - One Afghan officer was killed and one soldier was wounded when their vehicle hit a mine in Qara Bagh district of Ghazni province, southwest of Kabul, the Defense Ministry said.

HELMAND - A suicide bomber failed to target a convoy of British soldiers from the NATO-led force in another area of Helmand on Tuesday and three local civilians were wounded in the incident, another official said.

HELMAND - Afghan soldiers killed five insurgents and wounded eight more in the Nawa district of Helmand on Tuesday, the Defense Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

HELMAND - Afghan and U.S.-led coalition forces killed several militants in Sangin district of Helmand province on Monday, the U.S. military said in a statement.
