BERLIN (Reuters) - A German soldier has been killed and three injured by a bomb explosion in northern Afghanistan, German officials said on Wednesday.

Defense Minister Franz Josef Jung said the attack was the work of "militant forces." No further details were immediately available.

The death, near the city of Kunduz, brings the number of German soldiers killed in attacks in Afghanistan since early 2002 to 12, while 16 more died in accidents or from other causes.
