Hynix Semiconductor Selects Blue Coat Appliances for Web Security and Policy Control of Internet Gateway
ProxySG Appliances Provide Visibility and Control for Otherwise
"Invisible" SSL Communication Between Internal Users and External
Applications
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(Business Wire)--
Blue Coat Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:BCSI), the leader in WAN
Application Delivery and Secure Web Gateway, today announced that
Hynix Semiconductor has deployed Blue Coat(R) ProxySG(R) appliances
for Web security, policy control and preventing information leakage
through SSL-encrypted tunnels. In particular, Hynix Semiconductor now
manages employee use of encrypted Web mail, data transfer to
third-party storage sites, remote access applications, posting
material to external Websites and other activities that may allow
confidential or proprietary information to leave the company.
In the past, Hynix Semiconductor, a top-tier global memory
semiconductor supplier, has faced security threats and data leakage
through the use by its employees of various applications using
encrypted SSL traffic. The semiconductor industry is highly sensitive
about confidential or proprietary information getting into the hands
of competitors. ProxySG appliances enable visibility and control of
the HTTPS tunnels between internal users and external sites or
applications that would otherwise be opaque to monitoring or control
measures. In addition, ProxySG appliances can validate Website
certificates to avoid phishing scams or similar security issues.
Lee Byung-Gik, manager of automated information IT infrastructure
team, Hynix Semiconductor, said "We now have visibility and control of
applications and content shielded by SSL encryption, and can apply to
those applications the same policies and measures we do for
non-encrypted HTTP traffic. The Blue Coat ProxySG appliance makes
visible what was previously invisible and beyond our control. We can
more fully protect our confidential and proprietary information."
The Blue Coat ProxySG appliance combines the ability to view,
control and accelerate SSL-encrypted traffic using industry-leading
Data Leak Prevention (DLP) solutions as a result of its Technology
Integration Partner Program. ProxySG appliances interoperate with DLP
solutions from Vontu, Reconnex, WebSense Data Security Suite and
Vericept. The combined solution enables monitoring and control of
confidential information even when obscured with SSL encryption.
Blue Coat ProxySG appliances offer companies a number of options
for managing SSL-encrypted traffic. Blue Coat ProxySG appliances help
to protect Hynix by inspecting its Internet traffic and applying
controls based on the company's policies. Using Blue Coat's SSL proxy,
Hynix can gain visibility into SSL encrypted traffic between internal
users and external sites. They can also prioritize and manage
bandwidth and validate site certificates to avoid phishing scams
without inspection of the content of the traffic, as may be necessary
to keep employee personal financial transactions safe but
confidential. Finally, ProxySG with ProxyAV enables companies to
prioritize and manage bandwidth, validate site certificates and
inspect SSL traffic for outbound data leakage and inbound malware
threats, such as botnets and Web mail. For Hynix Semiconductor,
traffic categorization using the ProxySG appliance provides the right
balance of SSL traffic policy, validation and inspection.
"Encrypted SSL connections between internal users and external
sites represent a wide open back door for leakage of critical
information and a path for undetected introduction of spyware or
malicious applications," said Matt Young, vice president, Asia Pacific
region, Blue Coat Systems. "Blue Coat appliances help organizations
regain control of their networks and manage the blind spot that
prevented data protection and compliance with regulations and
policies."
