CAMBRIDGE, UK--(Business Wire)--
Five finalists for Exceptional DBA of the Year have been selected
by judges and voting for the winner is open through September 9 at
www.exceptionaldba.com/vote.htm. The awards are sponsored by Red Gate
Software.

   The five finalists, selected from more than 70 nominations, are:

   -- Richard Ding, principal DBA at American Student Assistance in
        Boston;

   --  Ken Kaufman, lead DBA at Zillow.com in Seattle;

   -- Cristian Lefter, consultant, Micro Training in Bucharest,
        Romania;

   -- Dan McClain, technical lead for the SQL Server DBA team at
        Anheuser-Busch in St. Louis; and

   -- Jerry Sommerville, senior DBA at Crown Equipment Corp. in
        Wapakoneta, Ohio.

   Background information and judges' comments on the finalists are
available on the Exceptional DBA Awards website.

   "The quality of the entries was amazing, making it difficult to
select just five finalists," says Steve Jones, editor of SQL Server
Central and one of the four judges. "The entries, especially those of
the finalists, prove how SQL Server DBAs are willing to go the extra
mile to ensure that a company's most valuable asset, its data, is
secure, protected, and always available."

   Joining Jones as a judge were Brad McGehee, SQL Server MVP and
author of the book How to Become an Exceptional DBA; Nigel Rivett, a
SQL Server MVP since 2003 and owner/director of Elmcrest Programming
Ltd.; and Rodney Landrum, author of two books on reporting services
and an architect of SQL Server solutions for more than 10 years.

   The five finalists for Exceptional DBA of the Year each receive a
copy of Red Gate's SQL Toolbelt with 36 months of support, and
publicity in a wide assortment of venues and media. The winner,
selected from the five finalists, also receives full conference
registration for the PASS Community Summit 2008 in Seattle, a
four-night stay at The Westin Seattle, and $300 in travel expenses.
