TRADE NEWS: Agilent Technologies' New Thermocouple Power Sensors Offer Widest Dynamic Range for Average Power Measurements
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(Business Wire)--
Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE:A) today introduced new
thermocouple power sensors that offer industry-leading dynamic range
in average-power measurements. As an enhanced replacement for the
Agilent 8480 Series, the new sensors cover a power range of -35 dBm to
+20 dBm and span a frequency range of 100 kHz to 33 GHz (model
dependent).
By extending the power range down to -35 dBm, the Agilent N8480
Series of thermocouple power sensors provides an industry-leading 55
dB dynamic range in a single sensor. Measurement speed and
repeatability at low power levels have also been improved. Each member
of the N8480 Series has been optimized for a specific frequency range,
and all offer high measurement accuracy with excellent power
linearity.
The Agilent N8480 Series incorporates a built-in EEPROM for
storing calibration factors. This feature enables automatic loading of
cal factors, reducing manual input errors and increasing productivity.
An optional calibration-factor table (Option CFT) enables manual entry
of cal factors, matching the performance and operation of Agilent's
8480 family of sensors. Option CFT also provides SCPI-code
compatibility with the 8480 Series.
"The N8480 Series is the new performance leader for challenging
applications in communications, electronics manufacturing, aerospace
and automotive electronics," said Ee Huei Sin, vice president and
general manager of Agilent's Basic Instruments Division. "Features
such as backwards compatibility with Agilent EPM, EPM-P and P-Series
power meters make it easy to migrate to these excellent new sensors."
Agilent is offering a 30-percent discount off any N8480 Series
sensor with the trade-in of select 848X sensors. Details are available
at www.agilent.com/find/N8480promo.
Further Information
The three new sensors cover the following frequency ranges:
-- N8481A: 10 MHz to 18 GHz;
-- N8482A: 100 kHz to 6 GHz; and
-- N8485A: 10 MHz to 26.5 GHz or 10 MHz to 33 GHz with Option
033.

About Agilent Technologies' Low-Cost Instruments
An increasing number of field engineers and technicians worldwide
are asking for measurement instruments that can be easily transported
for installation and maintenance activities. To meet these needs,
instruments must have three key attributes: mobility, accuracy and
affordability.
Agilent's low-cost instrument initiative is focused on providing
high-value test equipment in these key areas. Products include bench,
handheld and modular devices such as basic power supplies, benchtop
and handheld digital multimeters, handheld oscilloscopes, USB data
acquisition devices, display testers, Agilent VEE software, and
connectivity gateways. The industry has taken note: The Agilent U1600A
Series of oscilloscopes was voted Product of the Year by readers of
Elektronik magazine, and the Agilent U1250A Series of digital
multimeters was named an EDN Hot 100 Product and analogZONE's Best
Value Portable Test Equipment.
