SAN ANTONIO, Sept. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Thousands of people are currently
celebrating National Payroll Week (NPW), which runs from September 1-5. This
week celebrates everyone's favorite day: payday. The annual campaign
recognizes the contribution of our nation's 156 million workers and the
payroll professionals who pay them, providing strength and prosperity for
America.

"Through the payroll withholding system, payroll professionals collect
64.2% of the U.S. Treasury's annual revenue. That's 1.7 trillion dollars
annually," said Dan Maddux, executive director of the American Payroll
Association. "National Payroll Week celebrates the achievements of the
hard-working Americans who make sure we get paid properly, and the important
role they play in ensuring the American way of life."
During National Payroll Week, the American Payroll Association and its
24,000 members educate employees about payroll-related benefits that can help
stretch the average worker's paycheck. Such benefits include flexible
spending accounts, retirement savings accounts, and commuter discounts. These
payroll-related benefits can save employees up to 35% on everyday expenses
like daycare, commuter parking and transportation, and aspirin.
A big part of the NPW education effort is Money Matters National Education
Day. Hundreds of APA members have volunteered to teach teens about their
paycheck at local schools in all 50 states on Thursday, September 4.
"The more our kids understand their paychecks, the more likely they are to
make smart financial decisions in the future," said Maddux. "We're proud that
over 600 APA members from across the country will teach 'Paychecks 101' to the
next generation of America's workers on September 4, during Money Matters
National Education Day."
National Payroll Week also includes the "Getting Paid In America" online
survey. The survey asks respondents to weigh in on subjects that impact
America's paychecks. This year's survey also asked some fun celebrity
questions, like: "Which Comedy Central late-night host deserves a higher
salary, Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert?" A grand prize of a free paycheck and
trip to Las Vegas is awarded to one randomly chosen participant after the
survey ends on September 5.
