ALEXANDRIA, VA, Sep 02 (MARKET WIRE) --
The Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County (LACSD) will receive the
prestigious Public Education Award from the Water Environment Federation
(WEF), an international not-for-profit technical and educational water
quality organization. The award will be presented during ceremonies at
WEFTEC(R).08 -- WEF's 81st annual technical exhibition and conference --
next month in Chicago, Ill.

The WEF Public Education Award recognizes WEF members for significant
accomplishments in promoting awareness and understanding of water
environment issues among the general public through the development and
implementation of public education programs. The award is presented in
three categories: individual, member association, and other. The LACSD is
being recognized in the other category for its outstanding multi-pronged,
bilingual community outreach program. The program covers numerous aspects
of the Districts' major water infrastructure upgrade effort, including a
proposed joint outfall system, water recycling program, and green energy
initiatives. The program is well-planned and structured for efficient
dissemination of information to the public, generating community support,
and providing updates to the project in a multimedia format.

The LACSD will be honored during WEFTEC.08, the largest water quality
event in North America and largest annual water quality exhibition in the
world, on Sunday, October 19, 2008. More than 18,000 of the world's
leading water quality experts and 1,000 companies featuring the latest in
water quality technology are expected at McCormick Place in Chicago from
