City cites project management, consulting expertise for smooth transition

NEW YORK, Sept. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- The City of Newport, R.I. credits the
Velocity Technology Solutions, Inc., project management team's expertise,
collaboration and commitment as key factors in the city's successful
technology upgrade process.
Velocity, the top provider of Lawson-managed services and developer of the
industry-leading Velocity OnDemand(TM) hosting environment, has implemented
Lawson financial, procurement, and infrastructure software applications to
meet Newport's growing technology needs for city and public school operations.
"This has been a complicated implementation process, but Velocity's
project management leadership rose to the occasion," said City of Newport
Budget & Finance Analyst Elizabeth Sceppa. "We're not only addressing the
system needs of our city, but also the requirements of our public schools, so
it really means two implementations. We charged Velocity with all of it, and
they have demonstrated a unique commitment to the project's success."
Sceppa credited Velocity for outstanding communications and flexibility
during the entire implementation process.
"The collaboration was excellent," said Sceppa. "The timely and ongoing
updates were clear, and kept us up-to-date on the implementation's progress
and needed resources. It's been a true partnership, and when upgrades are
needed in the future, we know we can count on Velocity."
Velocity leadership also credited the City of Newport's management team
for committing the appropriate financial and human resources to drive the
government's upgrade project.
"Our public sector clients have many of the same IT challenges as
for-profit businesses along with some very unique requirements and resource
constraints customarily found in government," said Velocity President & CEO
Tom Bruno.
"Our approach to the City of Newport was specifically designed to help
them succeed with their implementation by mitigating the project risks and
being flexible to fill in the resource gaps along the way. Hosting the
software provides an added comfort for government clients undertaking a
software implementation by removing risks associated with IT infrastructure
and disaster recovery."
