PHILADELPHIA--(Business Wire)--
Kids may be back in school this month, but they aren't the only
ones who have homework to do.

"When it comes to life insurance, everyone needs to do their
homework and what better time than now to review," says Jim Jacobsen,
vice president of product for CIGNA Group Insurance. "This includes
making sure that you have right amount of coverage and that your
beneficiary information is up to date, and creating or updating your
will."

Life Insurance Awareness Month is a national campaign held in
September to educate people about the financial challenges their loved
ones could face if they don't have enough life insurance. The
nonprofit Life and Health Insurance Foundation for Education (LIFE)
coordinates the campaign, and CIGNA is reminding people to learn more
about their life insurance needs.

A recent survey by LIMRA shows that three out of four people
believe life insurance is a necessity, but they don't think they can
afford it(1). "Group term life insurance through your employer can be
very affordable. We encourage people to use our online calculators to
determine how much life insurance is right for their family's
financial situation," said Jacobsen. The Fall enrollment period for
many employee benefit plans is a good time for people to study what
their plans offer and make sure they have enough protection.

"Life insurance is more than just a lump sum of money paid out
after a loved one dies," said Jacobsen. "Many people don't realize
that some life insurance plans provide helpful programs and services
as well." For example, people who have life insurance through CIGNA
may have access to:

-- CIGNAssurance(R), which provides comprehensive services and
support to beneficiaries of life or accident policyholders
including legal, financial and bereavement counseling.

-- Online Will Preparation Services that allow people to easily
create and maintain customized life and health legal
        documents.

-- An accelerated payout of life insurance benefits when an
individual is diagnosed with a Terminal Illness or Critical
Illness such as cancer or heart attack. These benefits can
help pay for alternative healthcare, or help individuals and
their families face the financial challenges that a disease
        diagnosis can bring on.

These are just a few examples of additional programs and services
available with CIGNA life insurance plans. Get started on life
