Community Foundation of Acadiana establishes fund to meet needs of those
impacted by Hurricane Gustav

LAFAYETTE, La., Sept. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- As it did following Hurricanes
Katrina and Rita in 2005, the Community Foundation of Acadiana, Southern
Louisiana's premier charitable and philanthropic organization, has established
a fund -- the Gustav South Louisiana Recovery Fund -- to help direct
charitable dollars to those affected by Hurricane Gustav. All donations to the
Gustav South Louisiana Recovery Fund will go directly to support hurricane
relief.
Created to increase charitable giving in south-central Louisiana, the
Community Foundation of Acadiana will work with local, state and national
entities, including nonprofit organizations, churches, government entities and
private industry to build partnerships to ensure that charitable dollars
raised for the Gustav South Louisiana Recovery Fund have the greatest impact.
In 2005, following Katrina and Rita, the Foundation distributed nearly $11
million in aid to this region. Once again, the Community Foundation of
Acadiana stands ready to help attract and direct charitable dollars to those
agencies and entities providing hurricane relief and recovery.
"It is hard to imagine that almost three years to the day Hurricane
Katrina devastated southern Louisiana, our community faces a similar
challenge. Relying on our expertise gained from previous disasters, the Gustav
South Louisiana Recovery Fund has been created to help South Louisiana
recover. We encourage all those who wish to help the people affected by Gustav
to make a generous contribution to this Fund," said Raymond Hebert, Executive
Director of the Community Foundation of Acadiana.
Donations to the Gustav South Louisiana Recovery Fund can be made online
(http://www.cfacadiana.org) or by calling a toll-free number 1-866-627-3440.
About The Community Foundation of Acadiana
The Community Foundation of Acadiana was established in 2000 to encourage
and enhance charitable giving in south-central Louisiana. The Foundation's
primary service area is an eight-parish area in south-central Louisiana
including Acadia, Evangeline, Iberia, Lafayette, St. Landry, St. Martin, St.
Mary and Vermillion Parishes. It should be noted that while this is the
primary service area, this does not limit the Foundation's ability to receive
gifts or make grants outside this area. In its first seven years, the
Community Foundation of Acadiana has attained assets of $21 million. The
Foundation has met the National Standards for operational quality, donor
service and accountability in the community foundation sector. They are in
compliance with the National Standards of U.S. Community Foundations Program
administered by the Council on Foundations, a membership body of more than
2,000 grant-making foundations and giving programs worldwide. This affirms a
commitment to financial security, transparency and accountability.
