- Russia plans to close its markets to Ukrainain produce. A free trade regime with Kiev, which has joined the WTO, may be revoked or toughened. Within a week Russian President and Prime Minister will establish measures to protect Russian products from Ukraine.

- Inflation in Russia in August has reached 0,2 percent. Meat products prices went up most of all.

- War in South Ossetia became the most discussed issue in Russian blogs this August. Monthly rating includes 5 stories: war in Georgia, global and Russian consequences of war, total solar eclipse, death of soviet dissident Alexander Solzhetitsyn and the Beijing Olympic Games.

- According to unofficial monitoring, Russian industry has stopped growing. The outcome of industrial growth for August is the worst since 1999. Official statistics on this issue will be released in two weeks.
