Gustav shuts 1 million bpd U.S. gasoline production: EIA

WASHINGTON | Tue Sep 2, 2008 5:26pm EDT

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The 13 refineries shut down by Hurricane Gustav represent 1 million barrels per day in lost gasoline output and 700,000 bpd in lost distillate output, the Energy Information Administration said on Tuesday.

The closed refineries have a combined total oil refining capacity of 2.484 million bpd, the agency said.

"Even without damage, shut-down refineries can take a week or more to return to normal operations," the EIA said. (Reporting by Ayesha Rascoe; Editing by Marguerita Choy)
