(Reuters) - U.S. auto sales fell 15.5 percent in August from a year earlier, according to data from auto manufacturers on Wednesday. The following are highlights from the largest carmakers in the U.S. market.

Overall industry

* Total light vehicle sales 1.25 million units.

* Seasonally adjusted annualized sales rate 13.72 mln vs 16.3 mln a year earlier

General Motors Corp

* Light vehicle sales down 20.4 percent (308,817 units)

* Year-to-date sales down 18.3 percent

* Vehicle inventories at month-end: 736,000, down about 209,000 from a year earlier

* Cars/trucks: Car sales down 13.9 percent/light truck sales down 24.1 percent

* Key vehicles: Chevrolet Impala up 21.4 percent, Chevrolet Malibu up 8.4 percent, Chevrolet Silverado down 17.4 percent, Chevrolet Tahoe down 10.2 percent, GMC Sierra down 13.9 percent.

* Incentives: average $3,865 per vehicle, up from $3,329 a year earlier.

Toyota Motor Corp

* Vehicle sales down 9.4 percent (211,533 units)

* Year-to-date sales down 8.3 percent

* Cars/trucks: Car sales down 4.3 percent, trucks down 16.4 percent

* Key vehicles: Tundra down 8 percent, Camry up 3.3 percent, Prius down 4.2 percent, Corolla down 3.4 percent

* Incentives: averaged $1,398 per vehicle, up from $887 a year earlier.

Ford Motor Co

* Vehicle sales excluding the Volvo unit down 25.6 percent (151,021 units).

* Year-to-date sales down 15.5 percent

* Inventories at month-end 461,000 units, down 37,000 units from a year earlier

* Cars/trucks: Car sales down 8.9 percent, truck sales down 32.3 percent

* Key vehicles: F-Series down 41.6 percent, Explorer down 53.9 percent, Expedition down 43.8 percent, Focus up 23.4 percent, Fusion down 27.5 percent.

* Incentives: averaged $3,443 per vehicle, up from $3,139 a year earlier.

Honda Motor Co

* Vehicle sales down 7.3 percent (146,855 units)

* Year-to-date sales up 1.2 percent

* Cars/trucks: cars down 5.1 percent, trucks down 10.3 percent

* Key vehicles: Civic up 5.3 percent, Fit down 25.1 percent, Accord down 7.9 percent, Pilot up 18.6 percent, Odyssey down 19.6 percent, CR-V down 14.3 percent

* Incentives: average $1,205 per vehicle, up from $1,102 a year earlier

Chrysler LLC

* Car and light truck sales down 34 percent (110,235 units)

* Year-to-date sales down 24 percent

* Cars/trucks: Car sales down 39 percent, truck sales down 33 percent

* Inventories at month-end 380,560 units, down 15 percent from year ago.

* Key vehicles: Jeep Wrangler down 32 percent, Dodge Ram pickup down 23 percent, Dodge Caliber down 57 percent.

* Incentives: average $4,366 per vehicle, up from $3,769 a year earlier.

Nissan Motor Co Ltd

* Car and light truck sales up 13.6 year over year (108,493 units).

* Cars/trucks: Cars down 0.8 percent, trucks up 34.8 percent.

* Key vehicles: Altima down 0.5 percent, Versa down 5.2 percent, Sentra up 1.4 percent, Titan down 15.9 percent, Murano down 22.9 percent.

* Incentives: average $2,312 per vehicle, steady from $2,304 a year earlier.
