FACTBOX: Speaker lineup for the Republican convention

Wed Sep 3, 2008 7:11am EDT

(Reuters) - The Republican presidential convention in St. Paul, Minnesota, where John McCain will accept the party's nomination this week, returned to a more normal schedule after its opening day was curtailed by Hurricane Gustav's assault on the U.S. Gulf coast.

Here are some of the scheduled speakers, although much of the agenda remained in flux in the aftermath of the storm.

TUESDAY, September 2

President George W. Bush, who canceled a visit to St. Paul because of Hurricane Gustav, will address the convention via satellite on Tuesday evening. About six minutes have been set aside for his remarks.

Other speakers on a day designed to emphasize McCain's record of service to the country include first lady Laura Bush; former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson, one of McCain's former rivals for the nomination, and Connecticut Sen. Joseph Lieberman, an independent and former Democrat who was that party's vice presidential nominee in 2000.

WEDNESDAY, September 3

McCain's vice presidential choice, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, will speak on a day that will focus on McCain's economic proposals.

Other scheduled speakers included: Cindy McCain, the candidate's wife; former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney; former eBay Inc. CEO Meg Whitman; former Hewlett-Packard Co. CEO Carly Fiorina, and Minnesota Sen. Norm Coleman.

THURSDAY, September 4

McCain will accept the nomination on a day that will focus on national security and foreign affairs.

Other speakers include Kansas Sen. Sam Brownback, South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham and Florida Sen. Mel Martinez.
