HONG KONG, Sept 5 (Reuters) - The property investment arm of French insurer AXA (AXAF.PA) has appointed Frank Khoo as its Asia head as part of a push into a region where it has spent $2 billion in the last 18 months.

AXA Real Estate Investment Managers (REIM), which has $63 billion of assets under management in Europe, also officially opened its new Asia headquarters in Singapore on Friday.

"Asia is becoming a strategic destination for real estate investors and we want to support our AXA Group and third party client efforts in diversification and creation of value," AXA REIM's chief executive said in a statement.

Khoo, based in Singapore, had previously worked at Pacific Star Fund Management, and will begin working at AXA REIM in mid-September.
