LUANDA, Sept 5 (Reuters) - The leader of Angola's main opposition party said he had asked election officials to rehold Friday's parliamentary election because of widespread delays at polling stations.

"The system practically collapsed and we have to do something to recover the process," UNITA leader Isaias Samakuva said after meeting with the head of Angola's electoral commission in the capital Luanda.

Asked by a reporter if he had requested the commision hold a new election, Samakuva said: "Yes."
