Sept 5 (Reuters) - Sports news in brief from around the world:
Cricket - Former international umpire Colin Egar has died in Adelaide at the age of 80 after a long illness, Cricket Australia said in a statement.
Egar made his debut in the 1960 tied test between Australia and West Indies in Brisbane and three years later he ended Australia fast bowler Ian Meckiff's international career when he called him for throwing in the first test against South Africa.
He was given police protection after receiving death threats from angry fans.
Weightlifting - Thailand's weightlifting chief has lashed out at the team's Chinese coach following their poor performance at the Beijing Olympics, opting not to renew his contract.
Bussaba Yodbangtoey said Zhang Baoshun's "mistakes" meant several gold medal prospects had left empty handed. "He should have done better," she told local media. Thai lifters won two gold and two bronze medals at the Athens Games in 2004 but managed only a single gold in Beijing.
Motorcycling - Australian Chris Vermuelen and Italian Loris Capirossi will continue to ride for Suzuki in 2009, the MotoGP team said.
Capirossi joined Suzuki at the end of last year while Vermeulen has been with them since 2005. (Editing by Sonia Oxley)
