U.S. expels Bolivian envoy in tit for tat move
WASHINGTON |
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States has decided to expel the Bolivian ambassador, the State Department said on Thursday.
It was a swift U.S. reaction to La Paz's move a day earlier to oust the U.S. envoy over accusations he instigated protests against the Bolivian government, charges Washington says are baseless.
"In response to unwarranted action and in accordance with the Vienna convention, we have officially informed the government of Bolivia of our decision to declare Ambassador Gustavo Guzman persona non grata," a statement by State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said.
