Japan's Dowa raises indium prices by 7 pct
TOKYO, Sept 16 |
TOKYO, Sept 16 (Reuters) - Dowa Electronics Materials Co, Japan's biggest indium supplier, said it has raised its selling prices for the metal by 5,000 yen per kg, or about 7 percent, effective Tuesday.
Indium, a by-product from zinc refining, is a key ingredient in liquid crystal display screens for televisions and computers.
Dowa Electronics, a subsidiary of Dowa Holdings Co (5714.T), revised the price to take into account changes in global market prices and currency markets.
Dowa Electronics said in a statement on Tuesday it would raise the price of indium ingots with 99.99 percent purity by 5,000 per kg, or 7.4 percent, to 73,000 yen ($700) for customers who buy in large volumes.
It will also raise the price for customers who buy in small lots by 5,000 yen, or 6.8 percent, to 78,000 yen.
Indium IND-ING-LON is currently trading around $545 per kg, up 6.9 percent from the beginning of September. ($1=104.25 Yen) (Reporting by Risa Maeda; Editing by Edwina Gibbs)
